Good luck with that. Sounds like a legit thing. I got a new phone for my wife and it came with a free phone. I still have it. Even if my wife returned the phone, the free phone is still mine. So it makes sence, or bills.

what specifically are you upgrading? I know damn well that the 8 gig isn't going to sell for $500. So are you getting the 16 gig on the cheap and then "upgrading" to the 8 gig? Could this be done the same way through ATT's website for cheaper by "upgrading" to a bottom shelf phone?

By upgrading it just means being eligible for a new phone.. like when you have a contract for a certain amount of time you can get a new phone at the carrier subsidized price. Because ATT does not subsidize the price on the iphone, once you buy it you are technically able to qualify for a new phone. THAT is the loophole.
