I know this isn't 1997 but whats with all the car audio sub prices.. ?

Back when I was really into it the most I ever saw was maybe $450 for one sub. Whats with all the subs being close to what most amps cost then ie $900

Has the market just died and they had to up the price or are they just ****ing greedy?

there is a broad range of pricing on subs.

a decent 12 goes for 150-350 anymore.

i don't think prices have changed much... just wider variety and some better speakers.

Technological advancements shouldn't increase prices. Look at computers. They are 100x faster and cheaper now then when they were new.

Anyway, I don't actually think there is an overall price increase. Maybe there is an increase in the number of brands that get away with charging more than they should, but overall prices are pretty steady. $500 will still get you a top of the line sub.

that can be argued two ways.

subwoofer technological advancements will increase prices (whats in the subwoofer)

subwoofer development technological advancements will decrease prices (how the make the woofer).

If anything, gear has gotten a lot cheaper...

I have to agree with that, class AB 1000w would cost you well over a $1000 back in 97, class D 1000w can be had for $200-300 range. I know thats to very different methods of making power, just used them as a example about how technology had change things and made it more affordable.
