I just got a $13.60 an hour job today

Sea Pay, Sub Pay, Pro Pay, COLA can add up quickly. I was e-5 nuke on sub in Hawaii when I got out in '95 and single and was making $20-25k I think which wasn't bad really.

Of course I got out and my first job started me at 45K/year so I thought I'd hit the lottery.

Do you have something going on the side?....from an ex-E6 to another...E6's top at under$3000 a month and thats after 18 years of service. So unless you are almost doubling your pay with some sort of bonuses i can't see it. I mean 60k is 5k a month and you would have to be an E9 with 24 years of service to knock down 5k a month and since you're only 25...seems a bit stretched. Even with Career Sea duty pay which for you can only equal out to like 350 amonth. Hell i was an Army Staff Sergeant w/ combat/overseas and jump pay and wasn't even hitting $2500 a month.

And no, it's not a Polaris, just painted like one from when I was sponsored by a Polaris dealer----it's a Yamaha, the Octane sucks for freestyle.

You know what they say about subs, 150 men go down in a pipe filled with seamen, 75 couples come up!

Is that a Polaris in your avatar?

I used to take my Sea Doo GTX LTD out in 10 ft surf and catch mad-air (first time by accident! LOL!!) when I was stationed down in Puerto Rico. Not bad for a 3-seater, but it lands a little hard... I'm replacing the engine this April, gettin one from SBT for about $1350 and puttin it in myself. I threw a rod while doing some tricks out in San Diego. Got too much water sucked into the carb and hydro-locked it. Nice hole in the side of the engine block...

And I thought it was... 100 men go down. 48 couples, a threesome, and 1 really confused guy come back up!

I could never do subs, though. 3-6 month without sunlight would drive me fuckin' crazy!

^^Just curious if your in the navy, why are you here all the time?

When everyone talks about the navy, army, etc everyone thinks your busting your *** 24/7 but i can think of you, and 2 other people here alone in the navy / army that are on the board more then half the people working at mcd's

If you're on a boomer sub (missiles), there are 2 crews, so you are only on the boat 1/2 of the year and of that portion only at sea like 2/3 of the time. The rest you're in classes/schools/R&R/etc. At least that's how it was back in my time. So in a year, I might have been actually at sea for 3-4 months, with 1-2 months of R&R (you just report in twice/week) then schools/training/etc the rest of the time.

Fast attack subs are a different story, but you still have a lot of downtime.

My best time was decommissioning my first sub, in Hawaii. It was in drydock for 9 months, I had duty every 3rd or 4th day (have to be 'at work' 24 hours) and worked regular days during the week the rest of the time. That was tough, let me tell you!!! hehe

heh, that's a huge misconception. The longest I ever did (by far) was 81 days under. Yes you can do 6 month deployments, but you're only under maybe 6 weeks at a time and there is a refit period scheduled in there too. Plus, it's kinda cool to hang out submerged just outside some countries' ports waiting for their subs to come out so we can track them....

Ooh, didn't realize you rode a sitdown....heh, I'm a standup guy, always have been, always will be. Do you post on pwctoday? SBT bought pwctoday.com back in December, I used to be an admin on there for several years but resigned when we had our 3rd kid last September, then in January I helped start http://www.x-h2o.com and it's a freeride-dedicated site more than anything.

Well, I went to work at 0730 this morning, ran and worked out a little and then came home to shower. I get a 1 1/2 - 2 hour lunch and then I'm home every afternoon by 4 pm if not earlier.

Every national holiday, we muster at 8 AM on Friday, go home, and don't have to be back until 6 PM on Tuesday to show up for muster and then go home for the rest of the evening...

If you're with the right command, you get a lot of time off...

I'm only working about 20 hours this week and still get paid salery (24/7). I love you guys' taxes!!! LOL!!!!!

Best work schedule I ever had was while I was deployed to Italy. It was 24hrs on, 5 days off. Did that for 5 months straight. Had to de-tox when I came back to the States... LOL!!!!

Durring that year, I worked for a total of 68 days. 21 days of con-leave, 30 days of OTEIP-leave 36 days of PCS-leave and 21 days of post-deployment leave. Add that to 5 months of the above schedule and holiday routines... It was a good year...

Anyway, I gotta get back to work...
