I just found my future SUB!!!

i checked the nightshade and it does this:
811.5 watts @ 144.5 dB

1731.2 watts @ 146.9 dB

and double check the E12:

765 watts @ 146.2 dB

1399 watts @ 147.2 dB

is it just me or does the E12 seem more appealing SPL wise? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
It was a different setup and about 20 Hz lower for the Nigthshade. The "bandpass wall" setup is alot more efficient than the simple rear firing lower-tuned ported box we used on the Nigthshade test.

Neither test was optimized for peak SPL. We were testing for power handling and recorded SPL readings for reference to check for power compression. Both woofers could have been louder with specific tweaks, especially the Nightshade... if we had dropped two of them in the wall it would have been down-right nasty. But I only had one prototype //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That number is correct. Sean's setup is very unusual, it creates a very oddly tuned 4th order bandpass when you stick the sealed box inside the wall. I was at his place already to power test the SAZ-3000D in his truck, so we beat on the E12 as well to see what type of abuse it can really take.
You will notice I was still able to pull 140 dB in a regular car, my Civic, in a box tuned to 35 Hz.
with 120.4 watts ??

I disagree in regards to regular "entry level" woofers. This 140.0 dB was with a legal Term-Lab mic placement in a Civic hatch. I don't see a trunk car with an entry level woofer matching the score from my Civic without fairly substantial work to allow more bass into the cabin.
Sure... if you drop an SI Mag, FI Q, TC 3k, or something like that in a trunk... you can pull 140.0 dB no problem tuned at 35 Hz. Woofers in this class that actually sound great for listening, not so much. I'm sure it has probably happened and that is possible, but to say "most woofers" is not accurate.
pioneer 306C, about $US65, medium sized sedan, musical enclosure, 30hz tuning, about 400watts, 138dBs... tune to 35hz, and give it a bit more power, and 140db would be pretty easy...

"I'm sure it has probably happened and that is possible, but to say "most woofers" is not accurate."

Sure... it's probably been done, such as the example you are giving. But that is not commonplace. Notice guting's post, he has been unable to do 140 dB with a fairly substantial setup. What mic are you using? Term-Lab?

I didn't measure power when I did 140.0 dB in the Civic as I need to get some more test equipment. Sean had all of the equipment on hand so we got readings on power while doing testing at his place. Once I have that information in regards to scores in my Civic I will post it as well.

I doubt that highly. Seans "bandpass wall" is very efficient, and my peak frequency in the Civic is also much lower than the peak in there. I would guess it had to be at least 400 watts to achieve 140 dB, but I won't claim that to be accurate since I don't have a clamp handy here like at Sean's. I'll be getting one in the next week or two so I can find out then how much power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it was a box designed for the woofer, just chucked in the car, no experimentation with positions.

car was a 1990 camry, no sound deadening, seats ofcourse folded down, box was rear firing.

mic was a TL, street A legal score...

I can't believe I agree with DBB. This woofer looks cheap and not worth 140 bucks. There are many subs "seemingly" better than this sub for 140. But on paper tells me nothing. I'll wait till some real reviews are out.

"Not worth the money." I seem to be saying that alot about Sundown.

Thats good for you, congrats. A 1990 Camry is going to be pretty easy to get bass into the cabin from the trunk since it's pretty thin metal with little to no factory deadening in the way, so I can see that. To say that is indicative of all trunk cars is not accurate.

Plenty of guys will tell you that they are NOT hitting 140 dB in their trunk car, even with a much more significant install. I've told you twice now that I don't doubt it's possible. But again, saying "most woofers" in "any trunk" is inaccurate.

Then don't buy the equipment, it's as easy as that. If you are comparing pricing to direct internet companies and e-bay then yes, it looks expensive.

Sundown is NOT a direct internet company, we go through dealers. When comparing pricing it is more accurate to compare MSRP vs. MSRP of other dealer model products. The E series woofers will keep up with anything with a similar full retail, and will sound better than many products costing twice as much.

Sure, I understand that since this is an online forum alot of you guys prefer direct companies and e-bay. I just happen to be active on the forums since I've been in the hobby much longer than I've owned my company. Online is about price price price... but some people do care more about support and professional installation -- which is the primary target audience for my company.

It's totally okay with me if you don't buy my products. But to say they aren't worth the money vs. other retail products is not an accurate statement. Compare an SAZ-1500D vs. a comparably priced Memphis amp at a local shop THEN tell me what isn't worth the money. Same will apply for this sub... it will easily compete with anything you can pick up locally for the same price.

You do know that it is difficult for people to perceive Sundown and Memphis both being full retail businesses. I understand, but because of your presence on the internet, you will always be grouped in with direct-buy internet brands.

With that said, $140 for a 12. Why not, even if you don't like it your bound to recoup some of your losses.

**** guys... leave Jacob alone...lol

If those #'s are accurate then $140 isn't too bad (and thats FULL retail... who pays that at a shop??? bargain with the guys and get them for $100-$125 ea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

It will (assuming) come with a warranty unlike most internet bought stuff... and Jacob's customer service is A1+++ talked to him on the phone a few times and we are in constant email contact and never met a better owner of an audio company (except maybe myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif J/K)
