i gotz me some efficient powerz!!

i think the silver arrow will perform better and be quieter than the CM v8.. but you gotta love the beasties.
Probably would outperform but by a negligible amount, but i'd bet it definitely makes more noise considering it has 2ce the fans //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It is a neat heatsink, you can add a 3rd fan to it if you can find the hardware for it, seems like installing it would be a headache lol

The new coolermaster v6 actually looks pretty cool too

You seen the antec lanboy cases? They look pretty cool.. too bad they're so expensive (although they've dropped a bit)

moss i hate ur sig, poor dog, the turtle is locked on and he cant reach it makes me feel pain //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

bettr n revrse, i tried to pm u but ur box is full

I run a 5970...I usually stick with amd due to pice.but the 6970 looks beast....but I will upgrade forwhen BF3 comes out
ya idk.. i'm leaning toward a gtx 570 right now because they are supposed to run quieter than a 6970..

"With its 120mm PWM fan rotating at full speed (1800RPM), the Coolermaster V8 heatsink produces a moderately audible 52.6 dBA noise. At a reduced fan speed of 800RPM, the V8 heatsink is much quieter, producing just 35.5 dBA."
Coolermaster Heatsink Sound Level Comparisons - V8 FrostyTech Review

and

"The Thermalright Silver Arrow heatsink ships with two 140mm PWM fans that each operate independently at speeds ranging from 500-1300RPM. It's best to keep the fan speeds matched. With both fans running at full speed, noise is a pretty modest 43.4dBA.
The Silver Arrow performs very well against other heatsinks at this high speed fan setting, but for those chasing the low noise dragon the real sweet spot will be it's low noise 500RPM fan setting. With both fans spinning at 500RPM, noise output falls to an essentially silent 29.7 dBA according to our real world fan noise measurements."
Thermalright Acoustic Sample and Heatsink Sound Levels - Silver Arrow FrostyTech Review

As far as heat goes:

Frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing Intel CPU families. With a 150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform first, the Coolermaster V8 heatsink maintains a very nice temperature of 18.4°C over ambient (52.6dBA noise) at full fan speed. With the Coolermaster Hyper Z600 posting similar results, it looks like Coolermaster may have finally gotten back in the performance cooling game.
With heat load still at 150W, the 120mm PWM fan was reduced to 800RPM. In this scenario the Coolermaster V8 heatsink operated with a very quiet 35.5dBA noise signature, and held steady with a temperature of 38.0°C over ambient.

Coolermaster's V8 heatsink was then tested with an 85W heat load; akin to a Core 2 Duo processor. In this test the V8 maintained an excellent result of 11.2°C over ambient temperature at default fan speed, and 21.7°C at its reduced fan speed.
With a 150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775/1156 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Thermalright Silver Arrow heatsink maintained a very good result of 16.0°C over ambient with the two 140mm fans operating at 1300RPM. Fan speed was then reduced to 500RPM and the test re-run. In this scenario noise levels decreased from a generally quiet 43.4 dBA to a whisper quiet 29.7 dBA while CPU die temperature increased to 25.0°C over ambient.
Thermalright's Silver Arrow heatsink was then tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test platform with an 85W heat load; akin to an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core i5 processor. As the integrated heatspreader on a Core i5 CPU is the same size as the CPU test die used for the LGA775 synthetic thermal test platform, the 85W results can be considered indicative of typical LGA1156 processor thermal loads.

In the 85W heat load test the Thermalright Silver Arrow heatsink had no difficulty maintaining a very low temperature result of 9.7°C over ambient with both of its fans operating at full speed and 14.5°C over ambient with both fans slowed to a very quiet 500RPM.
So the thermalright is both substantially quieter and cooler.. for about $20 more.

I used to run Thermalright back in the day of pencil trick unlocking AMD chips and soft modding sapphire 9500 cards into 9800s, so i suppose I have a soft spot for the brand. Nonetheless, the Silver Arrow is still rated very highly in just about every review i can find for both being very quiet and also being one of the best air coolers on the market.

$190 for a case? pfft, maybe if it looked good enough but they dont imo
Ya i am not too fond of that look on a case either, especially when i'm going to keep it in the living room hooked to the LCD. I dont have a problem paying 200-300 for a case, but it better have a great feature set and a good look. Ideally, i'd be able to find a case with a simple cover to hide the opical drives, as they are never a great match. Plus, even on high end cases sometimes the blank 5.25 covers dont fit right and look out of place. Havent seemed to find a decent case with a door yet though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

this is one sexi bish, i just wish it had a side window..

It doesnt look too bad, i'll give you that. But i will never buy another thermaltake product again. They burned me a long time ago on various parts that turned out to be just complete junk. Maybe they have improved in the last decade, but i will never find out because i hate them.

Other than that i'd have to paint the inside, there is no HSF cut out on the mobo tray, has top mounted power supply, and it doesnt appear to have holes or space to run all the wires hidden behind the mobo. Those are all pretty much deal breakers for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
