I recently got an amp installed to power two 6x9's and two 6 1/2's at HHgregg. The installer only used one set of rca cords so now I can only use one of the gain controls on my amp as well as only one high/low pass filter. Is this just how it is done when you are setting up an amp to power 4 speakers or did I get cheated. Please help me. I am a newb.

thanks!!!

it all depends on how many set of preamp outputs are coming out of your deck.If there is only one set than that is the only way to do it.If you have more than one set it depends on what each set represents.Exampl:1 could be labled as Front, anthoer labled as rear and 1 labled as subwoofer.Check you manual.

Yes the amp is powering all four speakers but I wanted to be able to use the high pass filter for my front speakers without it affecting my rear speakers. My amp has a highpass filter knob on the left side and a low pass filter knob on the right side. the rca cords only go to the right side of the amp even though there are two rca holes that arent being used. Should those rca holes be running to something so I can take advantage of the lowpass filter?

So is it safe for me to say the installer tried to make his job easier by not using two pair of rca cords during the installation? If so I will go back and tell him to do it differently.

I noticed something wasnt right when I tried to set the gain and the gain would affect the rear speakers and not really the front speakers

Yep, thats a really lazy installer. If you have to run 1 set, why not go ahead and run 2 like he should have. Besides that, he coulda made some more cash off you by charging for another set of RCAs.

so they are powering 4 speakers on 2 lines? left front and back on channel A Left and right front and back on channel A right? sound like someone got lazy and nickel and dimed you for a set of RCA cables. not only does that effect your high pass but also some cds are designed to have seperate channel playing i.e rear and front playing different instruments.
