Alright guys/gals, i need your help with this one. My friend just called me and said he wants me to put him a system together for $400 bucks. He wanted 2 10's but i told him with that price, he's probably going to have to settle with 1 decent 10 than 2 crappy 10's. He wants a set of 6.5" coaxial speakers and one 4 channel amp to run everything. He wants both SQ and SPL. What do yall think is a good setup?

EDIT>>> SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!!

Thats easy just go to circuit city with the 400 bucks in your hand and give it to the first salesman you see and say "I need the awesomest system possible for that much money" they will fix you up real good.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif just kidding

lets see..

2 coaxials

1 large 4channel amp

decent sub that will work with the amp.

for under 400 bucks

JVC blue cone series coaxes- around 50 bucks

Power acoustic TS960-4 100 x4 RMS- around 120 bucks

Pioneer sub- around 100 bucks

Wires- around 35 bucks

Hes got money set aside for wires and box materials, so no need to figure those in. I was thinking...

1 JL 10w3v2 - dual 4 ohm wired to 2 ohms

1 Hifonics ZX6400 - 85w to each speaker @ 4 ohms, 340w to the sub @ 2 ohms bridged

1 set of coaxials - not sure on those yet

Is this setup good, bad, or just down right ugly?

BTW, the really wants JL (stupid high school kids)

bad... because I dont think that the amp is 2ohm bridged stable, you can get a dual 2ohm sub and wire it for a 4ohm mono load.

What are you doing for a deck?

There is no crime in wanting or using JL. He may have to sacrifice elsewhere to keep everything under the $400(not a lot of money for what he wants).

Well, let me take back my previous comment about the stupid high school kid. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif He doesn't want JL because of the quality, but because he wants to say he has JL subs. To show off i guess.

BTW- If i could afford a JL 12w6, i would have one right now!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

profile ap700M - 350x1@2ohms - $84.95 - http://www.millionbuy.com/prfap700m.html

infinity refrence coaxial 6.5 - $69.95 - http://www.millionbuy.com/inf6012i.html

thats $375.. so figure a little over $400 after shipping. you can dig into your 'box and wiring fund' for that. $10 on here for box plans, $30 in box-building supplies, and $40ish for a 4awg wiring kit, a fused distro, and some extra 8awg wire.

lookin about $500 after everything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ebay, i see some good deals on JL subs in there frequently. Honestly as much as i like JL alot of its a name (obviously) you should do him a favor and educate him as to some great underrated brands

I search and found that it was a typo, its 220w @ 4 ohms, not 450. So i'm dealing with 350w x 1 @ 2 ohms. Do yall think that that would be underpowering the L5 by quite a bit, 250w? Would getting the JL 10w3v2 (300w rms) fit in that setup nicely as well?

in a nice ported box, the L5 would wang like you wouldnt believe.

its not always about power. in the right box, a low power speaker can be hella loud. trust //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
