I give up!!!!

I have built 2 boxes and both are screwed. The first box was out of 1/2" MDF and not only did the box turn out like crap but the deminsions were wrong. I built the second out of 3/4" and 1/2" MDF and this box will fit in the space but I have more wood glue than wood..........lol. Can someone please give me some advice? I know that one problem is I am using a jig saw and it is next to impossible for me to get a perfectly straight line. I measure twice and cut once but it still seems I cannot get it right. I am a firefighter not a carpenter!!! The box I am trying to build is a wedge. Is there a program that I can put the dimensions in and it give me a blueprint on cuts, etc??

The dimensions of the box are:

16" Wide

15" Tall

8" wide @ bottom

5" wide @ top

instead of a jigsaw do you have a circular saw? clamp and long piece of wood along the line you need to cut and line it up with the blade on the saw you have a pretty strait cut.

It's not easy and you won't make a perfect cut with anything but a table saw or circular saw. Even with a circular saw, don't expect the cuts to be exact. Anything within 1/8 of an inch is not bad. You can always clamp panels together and then sand them down to ensure eveness. Don't worry too much about very small gaps. I would recommend using liquid nails. You can actually use that stuff to fill those gaps. It sets up nicely. Just use lots of caulk when done. Once you finish the box (carpet, or textured spray paint works very well), you won't see the imperfections.
