I found a stolen amp today- what do I do?

Background info: 3 months ago my friends red Z28 got broken in to and a bunch of stuff stolen out of it (rockford HU, Power 8002 with detachable shield painted red to match the car, etc). Turned it in to the cops and no dice.

So today I'm at work (at an audio shop) and a guy comes in asking for some 6x9s for his truck. Well I'm trying to sell the dude some 6x9s and an amp when he said he had an amp. I told him to bring it in so I could check it out and see what kind of power it would do. Well he brings in something I thought I'd never see.

There it is, Rockford Power 8002, shield painted red. I also noticed it had about 3'' of blue JL wires cut hanging out of it. I jumped up like I was about to knock the shit out of this guy but I kind of played it cool and was like ya ya what else do ya have and stuff. Well I couldn't take it so I was like "hey boss come in the back and check out this vinyl I just did." Well I don't do vinyl and my boss just looked at me like WTF and after some persistance followed me to the back. I said listen dude, I know that amp is ****ing stolen and I'm ready to let the cops roll in and bust this asshat. He said play it cool I'll talk to him about it.

So we walk back up front and just as the guy is about to roll out my boss said "So do you have the rest of that guys shit?" and this little mexican guy is dumbfounded. My boss was like "dude I know the kid that that amp got stolen from, that amp is 1 of a kind painted like that there is no way that is not his amp." Well the mexican guy is just confused as hell saying he got it from his friend.

Here's the deal- my boss wants no part of it. The dude has a couple friends that we're doing huge installs for ($25k+) and my boss doesn't want to ruin 50k+ over 1 amp stolen 3 months ago. I am trying to figure out how to bring this guy down without bringing me or the shop into it.

We went and talked to the cops and they say they can't do much about it since I don't want brought in to it. I said go find the guy, pull him over for doing ANYTHING wrong, and just flashlight through the truck. The guy is obviously spooked now that he knows we know and I'm sure he wants to get rid of it. They need to be found now, see the amp sitting there, cop say "hey that was reported stolen," and get my friend his shit back. Any suggestions on whats up?

shoulda turned off the cameras, taken the amp out of his hands, ripped all the shit out of his car, and told him to get off the property before he gets shot:)

Just add the price of the Amp into the work your doing for his friend and buy your friend a new one.

I love thiefs, They make good moving targets for a .338 Lupa right threw the Skull!

I got a wireless NVC in my Van that is tied to my Mac in the house. It stays on all the time. Had some peepers looking one night to close inside. Walked out and asked what they wanted with a 12ga M1 Super 90. They beat a path down the block in record time!

yup make him buy the amp back (unknowingly) and avoid a confrontation

i would've play it cool and tried to get his information by signing a reciept of some sort (for the 6x9). just play it off as a "fake" warranty card or something. then give your buddy his information so he can handle it however he wants. that way, YOU wont get involved in this mess.

if your buddy filed a police report on that crime and mentioned the stolen amp, the police could've stopped him.

My buddy filed the report 3 months ago when it was stolen.

I did play it cool and got all of his info. "Man what year is that thing? 95? So you have 6.5''s in the doors right?" etc.

We found where he lives and he was leaving just as we were pulling up to scope it out. We followed him for a bit and just as we thought he was stopping somewhere we kept going so it doesn't look like we were following. We called the cops and told them and they didn't want any of it. Guess in the next couple days we're going to find this guy at home..

Ya I wish my boss would have either taken the amp from him when he confronted him or just not said anything.

mexicans getting 25k installs? 10 bucks says they're drug dealers. Tha might get the cops' attention //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif
