If I was a Insane person, I would get a gallon of gas. Go to his house and pour the gas on his car making sure he is watching. Put in some Terance & Phillip crank it up and light it up.

Just keep in mind that the person with the amp most likely didn't steal it. Not saying its impossible, but the low-life who stole it probably sold it 20 minutes later to buy crack. Maybe just tell him you know its stolen and offer to buy it back for a cheap price. Not the best scenario, but if you could get him to give it up for $50, and keep his business at the shop, your friend could get his stuff back cheap.

Maybe not a close friend, but he definatly knows him. Don't want rumors getting out that we're all rats and not the shop to come to.

My boss took the kid in our bay to look at some wheels on a guys truck that are for sale, and we had a cop car sitting in there (we do all of the battery/wiring/fusing on cop cars) and the kid FREAKED out when he saw it. Looked like he was about ready to run.. do I know he's not doing something right.
