i blew something...

Just a few days ago I was listening to music in my car and everything was working fine. I turn off my car, go to work and I thought everything was fine. I got back in my car, turned on my music, and my subs sound like they are hitting about half as hard as they should have been. So I keep my music on, pop my trunk, and one of my subs is hitting about 1/10 of what it should be.

I checked all of the wiring and everything was connected fine. I thought maybe that the end of the wires were just not making a good connection to my subs, so i cut the ends and strung new wire through and that didnt do anything. So I dont know what to do.

The other sub is completely fine. Also, I was in my car listening to music the other day, and all of sudden it went back to normal for about half a song and then went back to hitting like crap and it hasnt done it since.

If anyone has any ideas of what I could do to try and fix this, it would be great because I dont want to spend the money to bring it in and get it fixed.

Specs:

Rockford Fosgate T500-1bd amplifier

2 12'' MTX Audio Thunder 4500 (T4512-04) subwoofers

Are the woofers sharing a box? That would explain why one looks like it's "playing", but really it is just feedback from the other woofer working. Sounds to me like one of the rcas is loose at the amp or behind the deck.

So not only is 1 sub not actually getting a signal, but the other woofer is using the entire box as it's volume now and will likely blow as a result.... This is all just a guess without knowing more.

yeah maybe an RCA issue, or maybe one of the tinsel leads is broken on the sub but managed to connect up for that half a song?

Check the ohms on the speaker leads (coils) and see if they are the same.

I assume you mean the ground cable so I checked it at the amp and it was fine.

Ya they are sharing a box. I just checked the RCAs at the amp and they appear to be fine. I made sure they were plugged in all the way and they were. If it is behind the deck, does this mean I have to take it in?

Doubt it... most hu are fairly easy to get out. I'd have the system on and I'd wiggle the RCAs at the amp and see if you can "hold it just right" and get the woofer to play... this still seems like the problem to me if it came on for a minute after it hadn't been playing....

are you talking about the wires that lead to the speaker? (im not very intelligent on car audio in general...)

i tried wiggling the rca cables and couldnt figure out a position where it would work.

Had this happen before and it was the tinsel lead inside where it connects to the VC.

Get a digital multimeter and set it on Ohms. Then connect it to where you connect the wires to the sub and see what it reads.
