HU Volume full setting...

I have a question regarding volume and setting gains. I currently am using an Alpine 9847, its not the best of HU but it does job ok.

I want be able to turn the volume all the way without having to worry about damagin equipment. cause right now i can only turn to around ~17....and thats the loudest i'll need to listen to daily anyways. but there are 35 notches f volume. basically i want that 17 to be move to 35. so it wont go past that. but i think my HU starts clipping after 17, cause the bass response vanishes drastically . even if i set the gains there

to my question,

1. Can myHU achieve what I desire?

- If yes, How?

2. If no, then what Unit can do this? I know the pioneer p9 is capable of this since its completely digital....I think. but i wouldnt want to spend that much at this time.

Thank you in advanced, hopefully my problem is clear if enough, if not ask any questions youd like.

~btw carputer is not runnning at the moment so no need to ask about it.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

In my experience Alpine head units clip the signal very early so I suggest leaving it how you have it now, why would you want to be able to turn the head unit all the way up anyway?

well i like the idea of turning it up all the way without worry or thinking about whether i should or not. and especially if someone else drives my car. Why does a HU have that far of a volume and i cant use it....thats ghey. poor designing

I see where your coming from, that's part of the reason why I hate alpine decks. As far as someone else driving your car take off the faceplate;)

meh i let my bro drive it time to time. i mean he's not stupid when it comes to sq. but still im glad you see where i am coming from though

what about a 9855 or 87s? 4v preout?

It's not necessarily poor designing... it just means you have the gains set too high on your amps. It's not always your deck that clips- it could be your amps just as easily. I would turn the gains down on your amps to get them to the point where you can turn your deck all the way up and have it sound the same as it does on 17, if that is important to you. Start off by turning them down a little, then turning your deck up and see where it adjusted to (i.e. 23 instead of 17). Repeat this process till you get your desired results. Hope that helps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

read my post

you too

ok. components (hsk165s)are amped(Avionixxx 440.4). i dont listen to my music past 85 watts, have no need. Sub is powered by an Zapco ref 1100.1 @ 4ohms to a mag. comps are passive right now.

no matter where i set my gains at. it souds better at ~17 then 35. cause it starts to sound different any higher

The "HU starts clipping after 17, cause the bass response vanishes drastically" is usually a sign you have the loudness button on.

Those are designed to decrease the bass when you increase the volume so you dont damage your subs or amp.

Not 100% sure, but I thought sq past 1/2 or 3/4 volume on just about any HU got distorted. So you're wanting to have clean sound at full volume on the HU? I don't think thats possible. You set the gains on your amps like you have it, so you get it as loud as you want at half volume so it will be clean.

there is no loudness button or setting on this unit. there is a function called "defeat" though, but its always off, and its buried under the settings

like this would help, but here

I just ordered the 9887 (is that was you meant by 87s?) and it should be pretty sweet. 4V preouts as well as active xover ability. May solve your problem... might just be because your deck is old and wasn't one of the greatest even when it came out. So not sure you can solve your problem and keep the same deck.

That center F button below the volume knob- does that center various frequencies? If so see what the bass is centered at and if it is boosted at all. I can't remember what that button was for...
