HU steering remote wire

I'm finishing off installing my Kenwood DDX8017 in my 02 Blazer. I was thinking if I hooked up the remote wire from the HU to the remote wire on my stock wiring harness would the steering controls work on my radio? Or is the only way to get the steering controls to work is by installing a PAC SWI-Jack? I was thinking of trying it but don't want to see $900 go up in smoke!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif Thanks

your not talking about the remote turn on lead for your amps are you?

remote turn on leads for amps are usually a blue wire and they send a small amount of power to turn on your amps

NO, Kenwood has a wire for THERE aftermarket steering wheel controler coming off the HU. My truck has factory steering controls. I found the wire off the factory wiring harness. So what I was thinking was connecting the 2 to see if my factory controls would work on the HU.

i wouldnt connect it directly. i am not sure of the name but there is a piece that you can get to go in between the two wires then connect them. sorry i cant think of what its called
