HU help needed CD5100, KDC-X891

Looking (so far) at the Eclipse CD-5100 and Kenwood KDC-X891 to replace my aging Eclipse unit.

There are a few things I have in my equation...namely:

Ipod functionality - I code most of my music at 320 AAC so it's close to CD audio and I want to be able to easily use the pod in the car.

SQ - want the best for the buck obviously and want a clean, nice sounding deck

EQ - I'm looking for a moderate level of control. I'm not going to go crazy with settings, etc. but would like to be able to compensate for the basic auto sound problems (like, a car interior sucks for audio).

Looks - not the highest on my list but I don't want anything butt ugly

Again, I'm not trying to build the world's greatest system. I've got JL's in the doors and rear deck, and will be adding a sub and new amp soon.

BTW, I've looked at the CD5000 that's on clearance...still leaning to the 5100 vs. that one.

X-891 You will love it! Excelon's have fabulous sq.

I definitely had taken a look at the aplines but it looked like the eclipse or exelon had more sq features...although the eclipse does appear to have the least favorable ipod hookup.

indeed you are coAlpine's is very user friendly however. . you wont get too much great SQ from mp3's.

Very false. Not saying you're a tard or anything but the difference between CD quality and 320kbps mp3 is not something anybody is going to notice unless they are trying really really hard. Check into the 2007 Pioneer line also. The SQ is on par with Eclipse or Excelon and they iPod connection is really really fast now.

Well, given everything I've found out about the USB capabilities of these decks, the Eclipse is out and I'm down to the Kenwood X891 and the Pioneer P690UB. Still a little work to do though.

id say kenwood deck but id rather have better sq all around then ipod speed as a pro of more importance.

Plus i dont like new pioneer ub's
