HU has 5V preout and amp has 4V input?

My HU has 5V preouts, but my amp says input is 100mv to 4 volts, will this cause damage to amp

yep thats what happened to an amp that only had a 5v in and we used a line driver sent a 9v signal worked for about 10 mins and smoked and went into protect.

hmm...use a mm and a tone at full tilt and see what voltage you are getting at your amp...dont hook it up yet

awhile ago not thinking i tried a 4volt input amp on an 8 volt deck. i got lucky the amp went into protect but didnt do any damage

i don't believe this is a problem. gain overlap is normal, do not worry about it.
