How your wireless provider can set you free:

I ran across something quite interesting today. This is a letter from Sprint customer service to one of their customers:

Apparently calling to ask questions regarding your account can get your account terminated without cancellation fees. hmmm...

Upon further investigation, I learned that there is a little trick called the "Roaming Hack" that can also set you free from your provider without any penalties or fees. Set your phone on "Roam only" and talk away! lol

Roaming cost the wireless carriers a lot more than they choose to disclose. Apparently this fine print found in the TOS of a Cingular contract is a loophole not only for you, the customer but them as the provider.

I am perfectly happy with Sprint. They have been my service provider for over 10 years and I have yet to have an issue with them. But if you and your provider have beef, this may be your ticket out of the contract. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I have read that before.. too much off network use = cancellation.

My mom actually just moved to another state and when she called ATT to change her address they told her she needed to find another carrier and they would let her out of her contract free.

She has a million roll over minutes though so she is going to make them shut her off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Anyone know how to make a Razr go into roam only. My wife hates Cingular(she used to work for them) and we are about to move to the DFW area and I hear that Verizon and Sprint do a better job don there.

Interesting information. I, too, am a several years-long Sprint customer. I cannot say they have provided me with flawless service (I don't know that any carrier could honestly make that claim for any wireless customer) but the few notable issues I have had they have cured promptly. I've never been late on my bill, not even once, so much as even 1 day, though, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

"Center" button--->Settings-->Roaming-->Set Mode-->Roaming Only.

At least that's how it works on my RAZR V3m through Sprint. I have noticed the menu layout in my friend's Verizon RAZR is a bit different so you might encounter the same...

FYI, this is one of those "modern day myths."
Tis not true.
I don't think so, I know Cingular's is 51% or more roaming for 3 consecutive months you will likely get a letter. I have seen at least 3 or 4 people confirm this, no ETF or extra charges, they just want to get rid of you.

Is that the deal? three months.

I just know that when my mom called to give her new address they told her to find another provider - with no fee for early cancellation.

Well I am speaking from experience as well - I worked as a managerin the call center for Verizon Wireless for a couple years.

Roaming makes VZW $$$$$ and costs the customer a TON of money.

It would be an exception to wave roaming costs as people are aware when they are in and out of their network.

Every cell service provider works different but they all have pretty much the same procedures.

If you are in an area and you set up service but then you move to where there is no service (according to their coverage map) then they will let you terminate the contract with no ETF.

But to be dropped BY the provider because of roaming fee's is b.s in my opinion.

If this letter is indeed true there is something a lot bigger that is going on that we do not see...

What they are talking about applies to national plans... if you use too many minutes outside of the providers own network (meaning they are paying the roaming fees not you) they will drop your ***.
