I got an alpine head unit as a gift. It was about $350. I have factory speakers and now they sound very clean. What volume level should i stay below? I don't want to blow my speakers. ( the alpine is rated max 60x4)

thanks

Bass will be the cause of your speakers blowing if they blow.

Follow these steps:

1. Set your bass and treble (equalizer settings if ya got em) to your listening preference.

2. Back off your treble (everything but low frequencies on EQ). This will allow you to hear any distortion.

3. Pop in your favorite CD.

4. Turn up the volume till you hear distorted bass.

5. Back off the volume until you can't hear any distortion. Remember that volume setting. This should be a good estimated highest volume to listen to you music at.

6. Return to your original treble or EQ settings.

Songs with more bass (or louder songs) will need to played lower. Songs with less bass (or softer songs) can be played a little louder.
