how well do subs work when installed upside down?

i have my sub mounted "normal"....when i got my amp the phase shift was set at 180*....i moved it to 0* and it feels like it moves a lot more air out of the port.....makes it sound much loader....
Sounds like the sound waves in the cabin are converging differently with the 180* shift in phase.
