How to tell the exact output on an amp?

I'm kinda new to the whole car audio thing. And this may be a simple question, but how do you tell how much output you get on a mono amp or a 2 ch. amp?

for example, with a zx750.1 it says it has 750 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms. I know the x1 represents the channel, but if you have 2 subs hooked up to it, does it mean its giving off 750 watts RMS per sub or 375?

but.. like with zx850.2 it says it has 425 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms. and this means it has 425 watts RMS going to each sub right?

(this is considering that both subs are 2 ohms each)

Thanks for any help in advance

Cody

when it says x1, it is a mono amp or bridged to 1 channel. not sure but i think you can just cut the number in half and it should get close to what the number is per sub.

if it says x2 it's a 2 ch amp and it should put out w/e it says PER channel.

ex:

1000wrms x 1ch @ 1 ohm - hooked up to 2 speakers at 1 ohm should put out about 500wrms to ea sub

1000wrms x 2ch @ 2 ohms - hooked up to two subs will put out 1000watts rms PER sub.
