How to make this sound better?

because they do not get as loud as the stock speakers. I believe my HU gives 10 watts per channel. If I add a 70x4 rms amp will I notice a huge difference? Here are the front speakers specs:

JBL GTO 607c:

Speaker Size 6-1/2"

Design 2-way Component System

Tweeter Design 1" Dome

Tweeter Composition Mylar / Titanium

Woofer Composition Polypropylene

Woofer Surround Rubber

Peak Power Handling 210 watts

RMS Power Handling 70 watts

Sensitivity 92 dB

Frequency Response 55 - 21000 Hz

Impedance 2 ohms

Top Mount Depth 2-1/16"

Bottom-mount depth N/A

Cutout Dimensions 5-1/16"

Warranty 1-year Sonic Electronix

I talked a guy with them and he says he amped them and noticed little change with the same car and HU as me. I dont know how that can be going from 10 watt RMS to 70 watt rms. Shouldnt they get louder and have less distortion and better bass? Let me know if its worth the money to add a 4 channel amp. Thanks!

Edit: Could the other person I talked to installed them wrong and thats why he didnt have a big change? I was told it should be night and day difference from stock HU to an amp.

having amped speakers is amazing. ever since i moved onto amped components vs powering off of the hu.. people don't even wanna ride in my car, too friggin loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

bass response will definitely be better too, especially at higher limits

Yes, they will sound better. The other guy says otherwise because he probably didn't set his gain on the amp.
Thanks, will they be much louder? Before I didnt have to put the stock speakers past 35 volume...now I have to go to 45 with the JBL's to get the same volume. The stock speakers were very efficent I guess....

Edit: didnt see 2nd post, thats good to hear...im just wondering if maybe these JBL's arent very good and thats why he didnt notice much change. He says he does not like the speakers at all while other people love them.

I've run the older GTO's from 3-4 years ago. Sounded decent off the HU, but MUCH better when amped. Solid speakers for the $$$.

Gain, HPF, EQ, etc.. can all effect how the speakers sound and perhaps the other guy had his stuff set wrong.

Get a budget amp like a Profile and you'll be much happier with those speakers.

INSTALL is very important. All the settings of the amp are covered in install as well as the mounting of the speakers!! Back when I had shops do my stuff, I bought a full setup and wasn't pleased with the results, when I had them pull the door panel off to see what was wrong, they'd just screwed the speaker in the hole left by the stock speaker, so it was free-air in there. The amp for the speakers was also set to full range instead of high-pass, so they were TRYING to keep up with the bassline as well.

Your whole install is a system and only as good as the weakest part.
