how do you get the music out of an ipod onto my computer? I have 3 computers and want the music on all of them. if i go into my computer and look at the usb mass storage device it doesnt show the songs.

You need some third party software that will decrypt the ipod mp3 database. I tunes won't copy music off of it. Try to google it, there are tons of programs.

I use Anapod explorer by Redchair Software. $25 well spent. It lets you treat your iPod like a removable hard drive and drag and drop single or multiple files to or from the iPod. It also has a playlist builder, tag editor, and with third party plugins will allow you to change file types when you copy files.

FYI, iTunes will delete everything on the iPod , and replace it with your music library.

Except for buying music, iTunes sucks the big one, IMO. It's slow. It only gives you an all or nothing one-way transfer to the iPod. It overwrites everythign on the iPod every time you transfer, so even if you only want to add one song, it erases everthing and transfers whatever is on that computer to the iPod. If you had something on the iPod that wasn't on that computer, too bad, you lost it.

You can look at the songs on the ipod by showing hidden folders. however it renames the files as random 4 letter combinations and only uses id3 tag info to show it on your ipod. It also puts them in random folders rather than grouping albums or anything like that.
