Trying to find engine black casting numbers. i think i have a SBC engine. i was told it was a 67 chevelle 350 engine. But that cant be true because they didnt even make 350's back then....im haveing hella trouble finding the casting number for the engine. where the heck can i find them. they said they were under the passenger rear but i still cannot seem to find it....and its erking me!!!

The L-48 is the original 350 cu in (5.7 L), available only in the Camaro or Chevy II/Nova in '67 & '68. In '69 it was used in almost everything; Camaros, Corvettes, Impalas, El caminos ,Chevelles & Novas. From '75-'80 it was available only in the Corvette. L-48's use a Hyd Cam, 4bbl Qjet, Cast pistons, 2 bolt main caps, "Pink" Rods, #0014 Blocks & #993 heads. Power output ranges from 300HP(gross) down to 175HP(net).
Well there you go, it could be a 67 but then it wouldnt be a chevelle.

Hopefully these pics may help you help me.....thanks

where could the casting numbers be located on this sucker?

Wow thats ugly.

Engine Code Stamping Numbers All engines are stamped with an engine ID code, consisting of assembly plant code, production date and suffix code. V8 codes are stamped on a pad just forward of the right side (passenger) cylinder head. 6 cylinder engines are stamped on the passenger side of the block behind the distributor

Engine ID Code Example: V0101CLJ - (V = Plant, 01 = Month, 01 = Day, CLJ = Engine Suffix Code)Another example: T0830CTY - (T = Tonawanda, 08 = August, 30 = 30th day, CTY = 1970 396 Camaro, 375 hp, 11.0:1, TH400)

Code Engine Plant Code Engine Plant

F Flint (Motor) S Saginaw Service

H Hydramatic T Tonawanda

K St. Catherines, Ontario V Flint (Engine)

(McKinnon Industries Canada)

M GM of Mexico

according to this http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/casting.html

I did find my casting number. It is 3970010

which according to that page is either:

3970010 - 302 1969 Camaro Z/28 - 4 bolt main bearings

3970010 - 327 1969 2 bolt main bearings - trucks

3970010 - 350 1969 - 80 2 or 4 bolt main bearings

Also I Just Called the Previous Owner Stating that it was a "1976" Chevelle 350 Engine.....Must have gotten the numbers mixed...lol...idk but i think i do know now for sure its a 76 chevelle 350..

Dayton would be a really nice choice as well as the SQL. I would look at a R. Sounds sub too https://www.resilientsounds.com/product-page/gold-15...
