How to figure out port area?

i have a box design from Moe Lester (great guy by the way) and i was wondering how i would figure out how many square inches of port i have from the dimensions? port opening is 3.5" and length is 14.25" to the corner of the "L" and then 10.75" into the box...

L x W = port area in square inches.

L x W x H = port volume in cubic inches.

8th grade allgebra man. It's all coming back now...
