how to do 16/17 volt somone help me

i have a HK1998 ma audio 1200 watt amp that can handle 17 volts to make more wattage. how do i convert 12 volts to 17 volts so that i get more performance on my amp?

I wouldnt worry about doing that. Usaci rates that amp at 1000 watts at 4 ohms. When specs says its 600 watts. At 2 ohms its more than the 1200 watts. I have had that amp before. I ran it at 1 ohm with a good 12volt to back it up with. And it was a cheap back up. Stock battery with four of the everstart batteries.

Only true way to go to a 16volt setup is to run two alts. One for stock other for system needs. I have two alts. My system alt is a excessive amerage externally regulated alt 14-20 volt. And I went with 8volt batts. Kept the cost down. But they did there job.

why does everyone get stuck with this whole " needs two alts to run 16v"???

as mentioned its probably more than your willing to spend. Besides the options already given, and the only one I would recommend for your situation is the step up module which can be had from one of two or three companies, you can swap out your alt for a 16v or possibly if your vehicle uses an external regulator you can get by with swapping it to an adjustable unit. Then you would just need a 16v batt that has the three post option, several companies offer them. you would hook your normal car electronics to the 12v post and the power wire for your amp to the 16v post. Sometimes you run into a noise issue doing this and it is fixed by running a ground from the battery (or whereever the exact spot it is grounded at) all the way back to the amp.

all said and done if you aren't competing its not worth the time, money, or hassle. spend the money on a stronger amp instead.
