How to compare subs to get the skinny on best bang for buck.

Same. He'll never be loud.

I just went to Walmart and got groceries. Pulled in bumpin' hard. After I went inside and was shopping, a younger kid ran up to me and was like "What sized subs do you have in your truck? We were in the blue caprice and my stepdad said you were wompin' "

As a side note, I made sure to park one spot away from the door, right next to a camera and where people frequently come in and out. If someone wanted to jack my gear, it would take them a while.

Along with my alarm and the lcd here's what I have on my trunk on my civic. It's a 15' cable that runs through the trunk and under the rear seats and is tied down with a pipe and a couple of locks. Basically, my trunk can't be popped unless they cut through the cables and most thieves don't have that equipment or time. We have to outsmart them !

This year alone 2 of my buddies got robbed and one was in broad day light on a busy road. All it take is a break of a window ( alarm goes off) a reach in, a pull on the trunk hatch , walk around , snip snip , lift and walk away. In under sixty seconds they can be in and out especially if they know your make and model in and out.

good thing about having 90lb 18s, no fker can lift my subs or the box. I'd have to get chisel, hammer and a shovel just to get one part up. and lifting it out of the box would require one to work out regularly lifting heavy with strong grip.

All,

Thank you for your input, opened me up to new subs and opinions that I would not have discovered if I didn't sign up here. Seems like a good community.

My goal would be an SPL guy, but not something that's so whooshy it sound's like garbage.

Thanks for the input on the simulation software, I'm currently in Saudi Arabia for work so I'll have to

wait until I get home to try it. Company internet blows.

Is there a company that actually compares subs statistically in an equal environment, empty room solely for testing? To determine the real quality of the sub woofer. Would be nice for the customer.

I'm sort a perfectionist, I want to build a custom box forward facing, removing my rear seat and they will be forward firing. Taking my time and going to do this one right. And I enjoy learning new woodworking and fiberglass skills a long the way, ha ha.

Lol, I'm kind of the same way and it's crazy but were never satisfied. Everyday I watch videos and go on the forum and get all these different ideas. Good luck and once you're all hooked up send us a pic

Shipping weight for my 18" Z was 81 pounds with the 2x4 wood crate. Cost me $79 to ship //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

You just have to be around the real scene. So company's are more consistent than others. There are a lot of copy cats these days, you have to be able to tell whats what.

A lot of info that's spread around is BS also. Something new will come out, the forums will go nuts, it will end up being a fail. Sometimes they are easy to spot, sometimes they are not.

You will always get what you pay for

no that would not matter. When you change the listening environment, everything changes. You'll have an easier time reaching 150 db with an SUV/hatchback vehicle rather than a trunk car. You'll need to hit up competitions to see what people do to get loud. You'll want to ditch any idea of going sealed boxes. Need to learn how to build ported and 4th order boxes if you want to get loud.

The box is the main factor of how loud you get. You have have the most expensive sub in a sealed or premade ported box and it'll get stomped out in loudness and sound quality by a horrible low end flea market sub in a proper custom tuned ported box.

Come to think of it that's a good point Jeff. He wants higher db in a sealed box. If he wants higher db the sealed idea will have to go out the window
