Help 2 ohm or 4 ohm subwoofer?

I'm confused with 2 ohm and 4ohm subwoofer. I want a single 10in subwoofer. I have a Alpine Mrv-M500 amp. 500watts @ 2 ohms and 300watts @ 4 ohm. I've been told I want a 2 ohm sub to get the max wattage of my amp. Car Toys and several other car audio places tell me I need to get a 2 ohm subwoofer, but today a guy with 25 years of experience said that I need a 4 ohm sub. I want a JL audio W3v3. What the hell! Do I need a w3v3 2 or a w3v3 4 ohm? I want it to thump, but don't wanna blow my new subwoofer. Everything else is stock in my daughters FR-S. Thanks in advance.

If you are going with a JL W3, you'll need a 2 ohm sub because Its only a single voice coil sub where you just connect the pos and negative to the amp's pos and negative directly. Any other sub with a dual voice coil, you'll need to go with 4 ohm because with dual voice coils, the final wiring configuration is 2ohm in parallel or 8 ohm in series.

Here's a tool to help you wire properly. PS car toys is expensive as hell jacking up the price etc...

You want a 4ohm dvc sub or a 2ohm svc sub
