How to beat 2 JL W7's

First off, hes trying to stack up to an SQL setup... W7s to top it off, and everyone is recommending SPL subs like the MT and SX (which won't even get close..) Then you guys wanna tell this noob to match a 2500D to an MT when he won't even be able to properly set it up or have the funds for the electrical system to handle it. Wow this forum sucks.

Let me put it to you bluntly dude, with 900 bucks you aren't gonna match your friends dual W7 system. You can get pretty **** close though by getting two of these:

and one of these:

Spend the rest of your money on a nice low tuned ported box and you should be bumping proper.

R u serious, how were they both tested, sealed or ported. Did they share the same box head to head and what kind of power was thrown at them

Completely serious.Maybe not for farting, but for daily street beating, W7's hands down in sound quality and output.

We did quite a few tests over maybe a weeks span, some to the ear, some on the AC, we never really had a TL to play with except 2 little comps. So that was ruled out.We also played with XXX's (all except one case were the SX's louder).

For power, we just used JL 1000/1's, because they were easily avail. at hand and were universal when it came to wiring.

We did mostly ported, tried in a sealed box around 1.7cf. as well (12's).

When we did the fart boxes we got the SX's louder. But for music, W7's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you're extremely interested I can dig up the exact details of the test.

is there anyway i can get an upgradeable system where i can keep adding on to it and makeing it bigger as i make more money instead of buying new amps and subsand all that?

That would be any system, you can ADD more amps and more subs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

If your looking to match the W7 in every way, it's going to be very hard without spending lots of money. If he payed to have it installed, then it's probably a quality job. The W7's are very loud and can still sound amazing at high SPL levels. If your just looking to get as loud or louder than him, without as much concern with how it sounds, that's more than possible without breaking the bank.

Here is my advice, forget your friends car, He spent a lot of money on some overrated mainstream drivers and you really don't have the budget to even pay for power to much less subs and the box to match that performance.

Design a system that you like. You often don't need two subwoofers and 18 even 15" subs are overkill for most cars. You can buy a really nice 12" driver for 200-300 dollars and have plenty left over for a nice 1000 watt amp and box. Forget trying to best your friend. Besides that, I know that if you can hear his system from a mile away it just means his car is resonating and leaking all kinds of SPL. You could potentially have a louder system with just one 12" driver! Think about that! Bracing is your friend

Also as far as these recommendations, they are totally unattainable. The RE XXX and MT’s, though awesome drivers, will require more amp’s than god and you’ll probably have to upgrade your battery, add caps maybe even some other hard core electrical work. NOT WORTH IT imo unless you are going for SPL. There are more elegant solutions around. I’m sorry I can’t name any, I’m a bit biased because I work for a subwoofer company so I don’t want that to compromise my advice, but you did the right first step by coming to a forum like this.

Good luck!
