How to ask for a raise?

give him the options
1. give me a raise

2. lose your best PC salesman.
And in this day and age the likely answer will be #2. The company's bottom line is usually the winning factor, and job performance, no matter how great it may be is much less important in the decision making. More than likely they can fire you and get somebody for the same price or cheaper that can perform close to or a little below your level and move on as if nothing ever happened.

Always have another job up your sleave if your going to try the approach listed above.

You're not going to get a raise, for several obvious reasons.

A) It's Circuit City, a company that is dwindling compared to BB, Walmart, etc.

B) You've been there for only 4 months, and you're part time. You may think you're the 'best salesman', but it won't take much to replace a PT pc/imaging salesperson.

C) It's a large retail corporation. They usually only give out raises when they're supposed to be handed down.

D) It's Circuit City- did I mention that? They laid off a bunch of retail associates last year because they were making too much money. They're not going to start giving raises for shits and giggles.

usually the best way to make a sizeable increase in wages is to move from job to job. Sad but if you want to make more money sometimes you have to be willing to lose seniority.

Ive worked as a painter for quite some time, before I became a painting contractor I worked for some really great bosses that taught me alot and anytime I felt I was ready for a raise I simply asked if I could get a raise and most of the time I got one. so in my experience it never was a bad thing to ask.

Whatever... I've been working at my job for 2.5 years while I'm in college. Once they see you are a hard worker sometimes they will do things for you.

I started at $8.76 an hour when I first got hired. In 2 months I'll be making $17.95 (which is my max pay allowed.)

I asked for all my raises and they accepted all of them, as well as saying "keep up the good work" etc. The only raise I get automatically is the one I will get in two months. I make 13.50 now and in 300 hours or so I get auto bumped to 17.95.

It's cool to make that much while your just in college. But then again I don't work at Circuit City //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My job is easier too. Just find the right place and you'll be fine.

OR Start slangin dope...

How come evey one always gives him a hard time about selling drugs. I mean its not like thats not work too. Its illegal sure, most of the reasons behind that are broken/wrong anyways. I say good for him.

It is important that you are prepared if you are going to ask your boss for a raise. Make a list of postive things that you have done for the company. Relate that to fellow workers who do the same job.

So if you have been there for 8 months and have the same areas of knowledge, are trained in the same thing and also can prove that you are out selling those people making more, those are your strong points.

Give some negatives as well. Give him weak points that you recognize and are working on. Show him/her how you are working on them and what tasks and training you are planning or have done to improve those. You can't just be great...you have to show that you have limitations and you see those and are working on them in a timely manner. Give a long range goal for yourself too. If you want to learn another area of the store, give a timeline of when you plan on getting that done and do it.

If this sounds like too much work, then you don't deserve a raise. Companies do give extra money, if you show that you are working for a long term job at a place, they will help you and sometimes increase your pay.

Do I think your going to stay there longterm? Of course not, neither do they, but they will still support you in hopes that you do.
