How much to save before moving out?

I am basically living paycheck to paycheck right now because I moved out without anything saved, and it is TERRIBLE. I would say listen to everyone else and have at least 6 months rent saved up.

ive lived on my own since i was 16...times were bad where i had to live off the street for a while...then sometimes from house to house....never knew where id wake up day to day...then finally i found a good job and saved enough monies so i could make it on my own...first place was a motel apartment...not much of a place but it was a roof over my head and it was a place i could call home...finally after struggeling...and saving from working 3 jobs i got a 3 room apartment....things were finally picking up for me....then hard times hit.....
