How much should a 250 watt RMS sub put out?

I think so I am not goign to slam you cause I am new to this as well but the way I have been explained to and the way I have it done is if I have a 500 watt amp and 250 watt rms sub if you set the gain at halfway that is using half of your amp power which is 250 so everything should sound perfect you are not over working your amp and the sub is getting rms the whole time. now if you have a dvc sub I would make sure all of that is done properly as well

Ok im going to try and adjust my gains.

Also another weird thing is the wiring diagram on my sub is differn't from in the manual

In the manual it says to bridge the sub I need to connect the negitive to the terminal all the way on the left and the positive to the one all the way on the right.

On the amp it says to connect the neg to the Left Middle Terminal and the positive all the way on the right. Wth is up with that

please explain your theory some more.. how does that work?

I dont know I figure if you have a 500 watt amp and you set it to half way that is 250 watts if your sub is 250 watt rms then you should be hitting just perfect. But as I said before I am a rook still and I stated that many times so if I am wrong let me know so I can learn thank you

Please don't give advice if you don't know what you are talking about. Both of you should read through the numerous threads on setting gains, and I think there is a sticky about it.

Ok so what should I set my gains to then? I guess half is to much or what? Ive tried reading as many things I could on gain but I still cant figure out a good way to set mine without blowing it.

If it were you what would you set it on to start out

ok well tell me why I am wrong then so I know for myself. that is fine that I am wrong and I told the dude many time sI was not sure that I was still a rook but that is what I thought and I dont see why he wouldnt be able to turn his gains while litening to it. So maybe you could tell him what he really should be doing and both me and him will learn something new.

you may be wired out of phase.wire the sub to the amp,the way the amp says to bridge.take the sub positive to whichever positive that the amp says and same with negative.should hit nicely, atleast enuff to vibrate your rearview mirror a little.if the sub is wired out of phase(backwards)it will sound like what you are describing. If nothing else just wire it off of 1 channel of the amp and see how that does instead of trying to bridge it....keep us posted.
