how much power for the FI Q's?

Seriously... To those who say cone area does not effect SQ... How many SQ set-ups have you ever seen with 18" subs? I've never seen one.

I'm not trying to be an a$$, honest question.

personally i have never done that exact test but. its pretty simple physics, you should be able to understand what im saying. i would also bet a lot of money that if some one actually did that test, that what i said would be correct.

as for the comps i have a set of infinity kappas, paid about 120 for the set and my cousin has the cdt CL 62 he paid about 300 fo his and i would have to say that his sound much nicer than mine. although im sure there are better comp sets than mine for the price i actually think that mine kinda ****.

Lots of them and a smaller driver CAN distort just as much as a larger one. As a matter of a fact, in some ways they can be prone to do just that. The larger a driver gets the less distance the cone needs to move a given amount of air. A 10 has to move alot further than 15 to move the same amount of air, hence to get just as loud. Subs only have so much undistorted excursion. A bigger sub can bet louder with less distortion due to the fact that it has to move less to reach that SPL. Anyway, as far as full on SQ competition level cars, 18's and 15's are VERY common for the reason I mentioned below. They can reach high SPL levels at low frequencies but still not go outside their excursion limits.

Countless infinite baffle setups use multiple 18's...

For a 32" driver your idea might apply.

But for 18" drivers and below, it's irrelevant. Any significant cone flexing there is a sign of severe design problems or quality control, not from the cone size itself.

it sounds like you really dont know which subs to go for at all

have you heard any of the subs youve listed or are you going by the use or popularity in forums and such

as i beleive you would get better SQ out of a couple of 12"FI Q fully loaded without universal

than you will out of 1 18 in SQ bigger doesnt mean better you could ude all 8" and wallop someone with a cople of 15s but i agree with Jmaesbang on this one mate focus on you deck front stage rear stge before worring about you subs as the front and rear stage has to be almost perfect first then go with a couple or 4 subs from FI or any number of brands FI is about one of the best because of price and custermer support

but get the bulk of the system built before you worry about subs because if you can get it almost perfect without the subs then when you do add them it will be unreal and you will have a high points stereo

Punctuation is a wonderful thing.

agreed good speakers should be atained first for sq then subwoofer to finish it off, and if u go for sq then dont go cheap, u gott spend big bucks for new sq speakers, not sayin u need new but it is always better, also if u want major sq i dont think Fi would be the way to go, Fi is a good average subwoofer, bang for the buvk it is the best the Q line,, but i personaly dont think the Q is competition sq quality, def an sql sub leaning more toward spl
