How much is a 1978 firebird worth?

Im looking at buying a firebird again, its a 78 model, white, burgundy interior, has ram air hood and side scoops, and original 400 with th400 *****. Its pretty rusty (doors, around rear window, wheel wells) but is all there, runs and drives and has a clean title but doesnt have original wheels. Lady wants 5 for it but im going to talk her down if i can.

This model, with the honeycomb grill, not the ugly ones.

If the vehicle's in rough shape it's a "what's it worth to YOU" type of thing. If you think it's worth 5, that's all that matters. Get it as cheap as possible...

If the car has an automatic transmission, it will have the 403 Oldsmobile engine, NOT the 400 Pontiac. That applies only to the t/a 6.6 or 6.6 litre models( decal on the original shaker hood scoop). It could have had a 305/350 Pontiac motor with an auto from the factory, but not the 6.6/400/403. The Pontiac 400 was only available with the stickshift.

BTW, If you are looking to spend 5k on what you described as a rustbucket, my 79 T/A is for sale, and it's not a rustbucket for a bit more money. If you want details, send me a pm, I can take pics and send info.

That rust around the windows will be a *****. It all depends on how extensive the rust is, and how good of a body man you are. Seems like a fairly steep price for a car that you would have to be doing a ton of work to. Matching numbers are nice for sure, but I'd really look for something more rust free. Need present day pics of the vehicle no doubt.
