How much difference can a ported box's size make?

Say a type R performs best in a 2.5ft3 ported box tuned to 32 hz (mostly what i see is best for a type R)

How much of a step up in SPL would it be going from 1.75 ft^3 to the 2.5ft^3,

both at 32hz and of the same build quality, both slot ported and same power etc.

Going to be selling my type R to a friend and just wondering if its worth encouraging him to use the extra boot space.

Depends on how much power you have. Generally the box on the smaller side has a flatter response but takes more power. If you are low on power the bigger box will be louder.

This is where modeling software comes in really handy. Generally speaking, space makes bass, but there's typically a point where you get into diminishing returns for going larger and larger.
