i have a scion tc. my next project is to deaden my doors and get them ready for some components that i will get in the near future. how many sq ft should i need to deaden the doors on my car? i will probably just use dynamat extreme unless you guys have a better suggestion. it's a 2 door so the doors are a good size. i figured i'd do one layer on the outer panel and 2 on the inner. i will also use the egg carton foam behind the woofers as well.

i deadened the shit out of the doors in my explorer. i used about 20-25 ft on just the front 2. have 150 sq ft in it now, and i still haven't taken the seats out to do the floor, just did the doors, roof, hatch, and back in the cargo area i did the floor and the insides of the fenders and triple layers on the wheelwells. it's pretty quiet, you can tell most of the road noise is coming from directly below and in front of you, i really need to stop slacking and finish up the floor.

alright so if i get around 20-25 sq ft it should cover 1 layer on the outside panels and 2 on the inside panels of both doors? i want them really deadened but i also don't want my doors to feel like they weigh 300 pounds when opening and closing them.

i'm going to deaden and completely seal them. i am going to cover all the holes with plexi or a thin wood or something. also i'm going to get some of the egg carton foam for behind the woofers. i'm going to do all this and use the stock speakers for a bit, then upgrade to a good set of components and a nice big amp when i get the money.

Egg crate is open cell foam. It will hold water, and mildew will form. Remember, it can get wet inside the door. It's better to use a closed-cell foam. Ensolite is good, and relatively cheap (for closed cell foam).

x2 on egg crate foam being OC. No good unless you water proof it and then it isn't really very good anymore. Also watch out if you use wood to seal the access holes - it will get destroyed by moisture unless you waterproof it. Plexi is good. I like a few layers of aluminum flashing.

If you are going to thoroughly deaden and seal your doors, measure the area of the door. Twice the area will get you very close to what you need. Throw in a little extra for good measure. You will not be distributing the deadener evenly, but that should be approximately the right amount.
