How many(WATTS) do you really need?

whats you budget is the real question
I dont have a set budget, I will spend what I feel I need to to get the sound I want. I plan to purchase the stuff I need in 2 to 3 steps. Less is better, but I dont want crap. Right now I have a $1000+ I plan to spend on the HU, components, coaxs and maybe the 4 channel amp. Then I will purchase the sub, sub amp and get a custom built enclosure later. My wife wont see the total bill that way;). Wife=//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

eh just get some really really good components.
I have been looking at CDT Audio, Image Dynamics, Focal, RE Audio and been doing some research on Rainbow. For coaxs? - I will find a decent set to complement the components I get, they just need to be in there for when the sub is out or I have rear passengers. I plan on visiting some stereo shops this weekend and listening to all the sets I can from $$$$ to $$, to determine what I need and if I need to spend $$$$ or $$ to get the sound I want.

Based on what you stated the amps and their power output that you are looking at would be more than enough for what you want. You could even save space and money by purchasing a single 5 channel amp to run the entire system.....Sub wise there are just too many to choose from. The entry level 12" of any of the "forum boners" should work just fine for your needs.......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D
I really like the ED NINe.5 and the Memphis Belle amps, but I am looking for stealth, I need to fold my rear seat down at times to use the cargo area and I would have no other place to mount the amp. The two PDX amps will each fit under the front seats.

What do you guys suggest I look at in the sub department?

Here is what I want: ( I will send 500-600 watts RMS to it)

- 12"

- Smallest Enclosure I can get built? I will probably look for a builder from one of the forums I have been checking out.

- No budget - but I dont need a $1000 competition sub

I was considering an Alpine Type R?

Thanks,

One thing to keep in mind is that for bass, you can't have a small box, high output with low power. You gotta give up 1 to get the other 2. A small box with low power wont' give you alot of bass. Alot of power and a bigger box will, so will a small box and alot of power.

Anyway, if your not looking for alot of bass, but want high quality sound, try a dimya 12. They are a 12 that fits in the space of a 10 or 8. .5cubes is a butterworth alignment for them. A "big" box is 1cubic foot. A small box is .25. 600 watts I'd use the better part of 1 cube and call it a day, decent bass extension in a relatively tiny space. It also helps that the sub are fairly cheap but of very high sq.

Doubt it, he only has 2 posts, and they are both in this thread.
there was another guy with the name LastCall..made a thread about his mommy and daddy giving him a brand new ram fully loaded lifted and everything. definately not a truck he would use. kid seemed like a momma's boy. all he needed was a ford fiesta or something along those lines.

anyways, everyone started flamming him, he got mad and i believe cussed everyone out and got banned for it. i think it was the lastcall guy..ill try and find the thread

but just incase it isnt, im sorry in advance.

i say 800w.
and werent you the douchebag that got banned for throwing his money in everyones face and bragging about how rich you were?

Sorry, not me! I earn all of my money! I aint rich, but I have my own money. Well, at least when my wife lets me have some of it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Or, I save it up on the side with out her knowing, like I have been for a few months. My 3 kids spend what is left!

I use LastCall on other forums so I tried to use it here and it wouldnt let me. So I used LastCall04.

Thanks guys for your recommendations, I will check all of your suggestions out.

On the sub, the box doesnt have to be tiny, it just needs to be removable and I dont want it taking up the whole cargo area. Based on my measurement it could be a almost 6 cu ft. (15"x15"x46"), not that I want it that big - But it could be.

Thanks,

LastCall
