It will show you how much wood you will use not tell you if you can fit all the wood onto one sheet. If you crunch the numbers and see that you have enough surface area, then it's up to you to see if you can fit all the pieces onto one board. There is nothing wrong with the formula; but there could be problems with the application of it (read user error).
