hello all.

I have just installed my re sx 18 in my car

in a ported box I built ( 5.65 cubes / 35hz )

and am wondering:

how long do you guys think this sub will take to "loosen up a bit"

as its super stiff right now.

it sounds good - but I dont think im even seeing any where over 7mm of x max

on it yet - maby its my amp -

im running hifonixs bxi 1206d

and driving around my digital volt readout is giving me 13.8 to 14.2

id take a guess that that amp has the ability to give off about 1K

rms on a daily basis, even tho its rated to 1200, yeah. shure.

so the rms on my sub is still 1K tho. so im probly giving it rated power

just wondering why im not seeing alot of sub movment yet,

maby its cause the dam thing is soo stiff, with only an hours play on it

any how - im super happy with this sub so far.

and im enjoying it tremendusly compaired to the pair of 10's

it replaced. nothing sounds like a 18.

verry unique.

lmk how long you guys think it takes to break it in.

any ideas are helpful

A small box will also cause it to move less. Couple that with playing around tuning and I wouldn't expect it to much move more than maybe 10mm with an xmax of 22?

plus they can take about 50% more power than that.

Hell, when I had my 18" Nightshade...I took it right out of the box...stuck it in a 7 cube box tuned to 27Hz and started pounding on it....after a few weeks it loosened up and got a tad louder..

I'd just play it for a week or 2 on music...to loosen the suspension.. but then again, some people don't break it in at all and the subs seem to turn out fine...so who knows how long it takes... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

thats true good point.

I use an equation that I came up with. It takes in effect the half life of the sub and the max watts. For my BL's it took 439 mins playing lil jon on volume 22.
lol and equation you came up with? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hilarious.gif.02a037aad04aa96f19982b298a3d70a8.gif
