How many bends in a port is to many?

3 can be ok, but may not always fit the application. The good news is, with 3 bends, the amount of response change that occurs can be inaudible if the bends are acute. The main thing to watch for is out of phase response band....which is why many bends are a concern. The more you use, the more resonances can occur in the response, and the less smooth the output and phase can become more sensitive.

So, minimizing the amount of bends is usually a great idea unless you know how to personally account for them in the design, which I can guarantee not many people in the field can do accurately.
