How Loud Is It? db metering

We have the DATS 2 here so we run everything
same i don't desgn a box without it. lol. not to mention im pretty good at calculating parameter shifts after testing.

i always do one cold one HOT and anther cold. that way you get an idea of compression fluctuations.

winisd does a decent job but unless you know your leakage/loss acoustically its hard to get it down. the old QL can **** your tuning. lol

im excited i ran some test on the DJ PSI remixed HDC3 today. pulled the parameters QES .72 when warm. 4.35 tuned to 35. i'm pretty sure its 146 no sweat. peaking at 50 so im gonna retune for the show to 45 and hope for 148. lol

I live in olathe, ks....I'm almost done with my wall, three ct sounds meso 18's with upgraded psi recones on a taramps 8k. Where at in missouri are you? I've never metered before. But I've always wanted to. And the idiots around here at the shops say I can't meter my setup because I'm running a taramps. Which I know is bullshi t...they'll meter just like any other amp does. How stupid do they think people are?

Sort of true, IIRC some orgs (who limit by clamped power) don't allow Brazilian amps because TermLab magnum's clamp has trouble reading them for some reason. If the search function here worked you could find discussion about it.

You can do SPL metering normally, but not clamp power.

not anymore. They read them fine now. At least for Meca and db drag. I know some orgs dont allow brazilians because they dont like Brazilian amps period, that termlab magnum not clamping properly is complete bullsh*t I've seen plenty of Brazilian clamps on the magnum. Most of the guys running clamped power classes i know swapped to sound digital and are still competing fine.

Sounded fishy to me too, but that was the rumor for a while. I must admit I didn't follow it closely because none of it effects me, but I did see some buzz around here over the issue.
It was an issue for me when i heard it because i was running a banda 7k at that time. They measured me just fine in both meca and db drag right when they swapped over to the magnum. Since then a lot of people ran Brazilian and all have been clamped fine. I knew midwestspl pull some BS not allowing people to compete by saying that reason but if its been clamping fine for everyone here in california how the hell are they messing up over there. Talked to a lot of the guys in there and they have a big prejudice against Brazilian amps. As in anytime anyone asks about Brazilians, they chime in with a fire/flamethrower meme or picture, these are some of the organizers doing that sh*t.

It was only some amps like the Taramps "20k", because they had a weird output or something. They weren't clamping consistent power out of them even when all other variables were held constant. One burp would be at like 4k, and they'd clamp like 10k an hour later at the same frequency. Was a meter problem, and I think they got it resolved, right?

I know the newest amps are supposed to clamp fine with the magnum

We are out of Springfield MO,

And yea the shops aren't filling you in accurately on that, the termnlab magnum cant CLAMP a taramps, as far as seeing how much wattage the amp is putting out, it does not have anything to do with the ability to see how loud you are, so you can be metered just fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

EDIT, didn't see everyone else's reply's LOL

I'm not sure if its fully fixed yet, but there was a weird clamping issue where it was showing next to no wattage on some high wattage setups like only in the hundreds of watts area on 5k plus setups. It was causing delays and constant re runs. I've known the owner of Midwest SPL for 17 years, its nothing against the amps them selves, it was just causing a lot of inconstancy problems in the clamped classes.

For example, best example I have is lets say the 4k clamped class, one guys clamping almost 4k at the limit, and the taramps user keeps getting in inaccurate clamp of only 200 to 300 watts and winning, there was no way to tell if they were busting out of the wattage class, and was obvious it was not only 200 watts.

This was the issue that was happening frequently. A way around it would be to manually clamp the amp, but the Magnum being the standard and unable to be used properly was causing issues.

Thanks for the extra info, I knew there was some sort of controversy about this.
