How long will sound deadner last?

it is butyl but has a plastic backing(instead of foil) which makes it a fire hazard
Not to mention, crappy as a noise barrier. The adhesive is also aparently pretty lousy. And from what ive read, the butyl rubber itself is substantially worse than competing mats.
Other than that, the stuff is great.

Word on the street is that its not 100% butyl, and the mylar backing (the plastic stuff) is not nearly as good as foil but apparently must save some money.

Properly applied good sound deadening should last longer than you have your car.

My edead had started to separate the mylar from the "butyl" and its been a little over a year

the new stuff is butyl, not exactly 100% but enough to "claim" its butyl. but yes mylar is a poor choice of a backing, it will separate, disperse heat terribly, & burns. its way too big of a shortcut to cut costs.
