How long until my battery charger is stolen?

stock or after market alt? i never seen a stock car that worked right idle voltage under 13.8 and that 13.8 was a 2003-4 audi quatro. if it doesnt produce voltage it needs at idle its battery powered until it hits the right amount of rpm. what people do to help that with after market alts is put a smaller pully on the alt or worse yet is turn the idle up which i wouldnt do...
It's an aftermarket alternator from Excessive Amperage.

um...and last time I checked. Optimas have a float voltage of about 12.7 or 12.6. I bet if you put a load on that battery bank, the voltage would drop right back down to the mid 12s. Thats where batteries are going to sit. You have alternator problems.
So you're saying Blue Tops that were sitting for months will still be at 12.7?

Also, the alternator seems fine, it ran my stock battery fine... and it has similar voltage to the stock alternator.

if i throw a charger on my 1400 it will get up past 13v and rest above 13 v for a long time regular use it always rests @ 12.9 or higher. it will reast @ 12.9 when really cold or right after i have charged up a couple of my rc batteries....

Kenny.

you should let it charge for awhile and then see what happens, as opposed to considering replacing stuff just yet.

i bet they will be fine after a nice good charge

Yeah, they charged 12 hours last night and I'm at work with the charger setup. I'm running to lunch for an hour or so, then they'll be charging for 3 more hours. Then I have a car meet to go to... I don't know if I'm gonna play my BTL so fresh after recone, but it'll sit another 12 hours tonight at 2 amps.

If your car at idle isnt atleast 13v+ you have a problem.

It usually should actually be 13.8v-14.4v.

You have a problem with your charging system. Hit up Nate and ask him. You shouldnt have to rev your car to sustain voltage. Sounds like your car idles too low fir the alt you have. My truck did the same thing and I had nate fix it so it would charge at a lower idle.

hows your elec so hi and not frying stauff in the car?

I am god? Lawl...its been up to 15.8v before...at that point I got scared, but That was fixed by a small little computer issue in the truck.

Chevrolet service techs told me that 15.5v is the limit for my 12v truck. He said that they have seen 16v+ be ok for short periods. Told me that it isnt the higher voltage that kills it (to a point he added)...its the spikes that can fry everything in there.
