How long do police have to file charges?

My female friend was in an accident i'd say 6-12 months ago, a drunk driver hit her as she was standing out in the middle of the street. She's had surgeries, physical therapy, medications, etc....

Well, she was drinking that night. Police are JUST NOW filing charges for underage... like 6-12 months AFTER the actual accident... is this possible? She said her attorney told her. She's suing the guy who hit her... isn't there like a time table for police to file charges or do they have an indefinate amount of time to file a charge?

if thats true, thats like them saying "oh we caught you a year ago, so we're gonna charge you now."... wtf? anyone have any idea? google was no help..

Search statute of limitations for drinking under age charges. My guess is they can raise charges for allllot longer than 6 to 12 months post offense.

QFT.

Statute of limitations is variable by offense and location. You'll need to research it. Her attorney oughtta be familiar with the law, so asking him might be more advisable than us. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

drinking underage wont be a big deal.

if they even decide to keep up with it. she could get off on it relatively easily unless she was Breathalyzed
