Originally posted by Jmac If you have a home amplifier, basically hook them up (one per channel, not in the box. Just magnet side down on the floor) and run them at very low volume (Just enough to get them moving a fair bit, but not too much) and leave them going overnight or while you're at work or something ...

A good 6 hours is usually good enough for most subs (Some subs like Kicker L7s need upwards of 10 hours) ...

Use a bass test CD, if possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
If you hooked them up on the floor with the magnet up, couldn't you damage the surround against the floor?

To break in my HE2's I just played them @ ~1/3-1/2 vol. for 6-8hrs. That is what's reccomended.

LOL settle down guys.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

The whole idea of breaking in a speaker is to loosen up the surround and spider. If you just crank it, you could damage it. (Kinda like streching before a workout.) Subs need this more so than other speakers because they move more; a tweeter or mid doesn't have that much excursion.

It's the same conecpt of letting glue dry before u screw the box 2gether. You can never make a crease perfect so you let it work naturally and then make it go full power. I wouldn't connect to home amp tho. It sounds like a good idea, but what happens if you don't know the wattage going to it or something like that.

I just make sure they're is some way of keeping the sub cool. If you haven't made custom box then jsut take the speaker termianl cup out and run wiring through that. That way it's just running and staying cool.
