How do they get away with overrating amps?

This is more a legal question than anything else but here it goes... how the hell does Pyramid and all the other sub-par brands get away with misrepresenting their products? When I buy a 5 lb ham, I get 5 lbs. When you buy a 750W Pyramid amp, you get 500W or less. I can understand that because of the quality of electronic components, power handling and other factors can vary but how can the margin be so HUGE?

This question has been bothering me ever since I first got into car audio. Just doesn't make sense...Maybe I need a lawyer to overcomplicate it.:p

Because there is not a definate system that we go by...there should be one, but there is not, so the best thing you can do is come on a forum like this and ask...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

How can there be different ways to measure power? A watt equals a watt. Please explain how they found a way to screw with the rating so 500W=700W.

can measure it with 20v at 60% distortion @ 1khz and add the heat the heat sink puts out and add that to power..........never seen this all done on one amp but i have seen it done independantly on cheap amps like american hi- fi crapola
