How do i tell how many volts my alternator is putting out?

Ive read posts when people tell how many volts their alternator puts out. I have a DMM, but how do I measure?

put it on the pos terminal of the alt or the wire that goes from the alt to the fuse box and a ground

stick your tonuge on the positive and ground yourself.

ok. and that should give me a good estimate? Ive stunned myself with a taser so i know the voltages.

it should be somewhere between a 9v and getting kicked in the nuts repeadidly for 10 minutes on the pain-o-meter.
