how do i know ive overdone it?

in some vehicles, the alt upgrade is tough. My Xterra an only support a 190A for $700. I use kinetik batteries and don't have any issues with the STOCK alt.

I use a cig lighter voltmeter for daily from Autozone, $12. stinger makes a nice little one. Tsunami makes one I'll be getting in a few days that's 1/2 din.

as an ex-owner of two Volvos and a '94 940T I know that the volvo systems are tightly integrated and you might check with a local volvo shop to see if changing anything will cause a problem.

maybe you should be more worried about providing your son a good life then car audio at this point in time.
I appreciate your outlook on the situation but you don’t know me, you don’t know how much I make working construction, and you don’t know that I have one semester of school left to have my degree in IT security which I started getting when I was a junior in highschool. And did I mention that a person in IT security starts off at roughly 90k a year. And did I mention my aunt is head programmer at a very large corporation and already secured me a spot there. Just because I don’t have the money to throw at a system all at once doesn’t mean I don’t have the money to support my family. So back on subject.

i will have to do that. the guy i bought the car from has owned it since new and took it to the same place a few times a year to check everything. so he knows this perticular car front and back.

ok so get this. i was waiting on my HD315, Orion 2500D and my wire for the big 3 to get in. well the 0g was the last thing to get ordered so i knew that everything would be here before the wire for the big 3. well i couldnt wait so last night before i left out for the night i hooked up the D2 driver to 4 Ohms. i figured pushing 1000 watts wouldnt harm anything. well with the stock 120A alt and 0G power line i couldnt get the headlights to dim. bass tracks, normal music, anything. i even sat idle with my brights on to see if i could get anything and i couldnt get them to dim with the music cranked.

so this morning i woke up at my girlfriends house and rewired the driver for 1 ohm. im going to see how this runs with more than twice the wattage thgen before. hopefully by next weekend ill have the big 3 done in 0 and a second battery.

one more quick question. should i upgrade my batt under the hood first or get another one for the trunk first? main battery is a real expensive interstate battery so im thinking if i just get a second yellowtop for now that will be good till i have the cash to get another red or yellow top under the hood. thanks for all the help guys.
