Ok so im in the process of trying to find a HO alternator for a decent price. so far the only thing i have found for my 93 volvo 960 is one by the company HO alternators that is custom made and is 700 shipped. so until i either cough up the 700 or find one a little cheaper i have a problem. i dont have any kind of volt meter on the dash. theres a stock bosche 120A alt in there now. im running a D2 HD315 and a orion 2500D. 1/0 power wire and im going to do a big 3 in all 1/0.

im thinking the only thing im going to be able to do is run it at 4 ohms at 1000W.

so does anyone think i can run it at the 2500 and be alright and what should i look for if something is wrong? this is the first time i have tried running anything over 500W. any input would help.

im also planing on some yellowtops when i get the alt but i need the downlow on whats up before the alt and bats come. thanks in advance.

get the battery's in there, would help alot with that reserve, but the alt upgrade is really helpful too when u get the money.

There isnt much u can really do that would help until u get those in since u already plan on the Big 3 1/0 wiring.

i really dont want to put another battery in until the new alty is in. from what i understand its just going to tax the alt more as its just another load...

i'm running an MD2 and a XT-1600.2 off a 120A alt and the voltage drops I'm getting aren't too bad and lights don't really dim at full tilt. Got Big 3 done and just a yellow top under the hood. I'd just follow PhyPhoestilic's advice, although you should probably consider if you really wanna run that, especially if the alternator is 700 bucks. But then again, money may not be an issue for you.

ok so im assuming i set the music where i would be listening to it and take the measuremant off the battery? only problem is since im at a stop im going to be getting a lot less power. what numbers should i get scared of? basicly i need to know when im in trouble...

well good news i guess. my buddy is finishing up mechanics school in florida and is comming home in a few monthes. he said he will instal the alt for free. that cuts back on some costs for sure.
