how do i hook up a car amplifier to a bookshelf stereo system

i have a rockwood 600 watt amplifier and a phillips magnavox bookshelf stereo system now i have seen them hooked up before but i dont know what would be the ground and what would be the battery because im hooken it up through the ground and the battery connections but where on my stereo would the gound and batter connections be if anyone can help please help me out

 
every ramos said is right but you have to make shure your book shelf system is the right impedence. or eles you may ruin your speakers

This is true. But most home stereo speakers are 8ohm which won't harm a car amplifier at all. The only thing that will happen is you won't get as much power from the amplifier. You also might want to make sure the speakers can handle the power.
