How do amps function when strapped in parallel sync mode?

I have 2 Viper 1200's strapped in parallel sync mode, not external sync mode. I was pushing 4 15's with the amps wired this way and playing music like Lil' Jon the AC voltage from the Master Amp peaked at 70v. Which would be right for 2400@ 2 ohm. However i hooked up just one sub to the slave amp and the master amp peaks at 52v on one sub on the same volume. Now the amp manual says that with the amps strapped this way you still wire the subs up normal it is just that the master amp are the only controls that work. So the amps are stilling working by themselves, for instance i had 2 D4's on each amp wired to a 1 ohm load. So my question is since the amps are still pushing their own seperate loads how am i getting 52v AC voltage with a Dual 4 wired to a 2 ohm load. That would be putting out around 1400RMS which is not right for a 2 ohm load on one amp. So what is going on? Why am i getting so much power? Or am i not getting that much power? Any input is appreciated, sorry for the long *** thread I really do not know much about this department, still an amatuer, so i tried to be as detailed as possible with what i do know.

Thanks

The other way the amps could be strapped they would have to be wired together with 12AWG and would see a combined 2 ohm load, which is how most people recommend strapping amps, but this way gives me more wiring options.
