Quick question...

I dont have access to a voltmeter or anything of that nature, but want to set my gain correctly as to not blow any equipment. Is there just some general rule of thumb of where it should be set at or no? Its a 600RMS sub (DVC 4ohm) and a Alpine MRD-605 amp. Right now the gain is probably way off at .3 and I want to set it for the best life of my equipment.

And yes I know I can go buy a voltmeter and all this stuff, but if thats the case I would rather just take it to a shop and have them set it real quick. I want to have it set correctly, and as I asked earlier, is there just no general rule of thumb?

The general rule of thumb IS to set it with a dmm. Other than that it is a guess. Turn it until your sub distorts then back off a bit. If you can't tell that it is distorting then buy a DMM and be done with it.
